This was an absolute fun read. A light suspense story with moments of intense thrill. I loved the way the author allowed my pulse rate to come down before making it shoot up. Oooh my heart did get a good workout.
Lizzie, a nurse, is hired my Miriam to keep her brother Charlie sedated all the time 24*7. Apparently, he had a brain tumor and was in intense pain, prone to violent attacks. One evening, Lizzie forgot the meds, and Charlie woke up. She found him to be pain free and sane enough. Taking an independent call, she decreased his dosage. A woman was found strangled down the garden the same night. Was it Charlie? Had Lizzie made the biggest mistake of her life?
My first book by Netta Newbound, and with such a beginning, I knew it was going to be quite exciting. So I decided to don my Detective hat. Was the patient faking it, the doc in me asked the question. I needed to know the truth. Armed with my magnifying glass (I just increased the size of the font on kindle😂), I looked at all the characters with suspicion.
The neighbor Ben with his links to the dead woman, the gross neighbor Nigel across the street with no respect for women, Charlie, who was supposedly sedated but wasn’t, with his tendency to batter women, or Lizzie herself who appeared to be a bit too friendly with Ben. Was she in with him? Netta’s easy to read way of writing got all these questions wrapped up in my mind. I could feel my brain cells zinging to and fro trying to eliminate each suspect.
But the author one upped on me, every time I laid a suspect to rest, she wrote something which made me doubt them again. I kept going in circles. Then the author brought in another abusive murder. What the freak!! I hadn’t solved the first one yet. The characters were seriously unlikable to me now.
Then the book raced on to the finale which was explosive. I had a slight inkling of the identity of the perp by the process of elimination, and the murder mystery was ultimately solved. Did I not tell you good cardiac workout?!!
A breakfast read, I had galores of fun reading this book. Got to read the rest of her books. A talented writer, for sure.
I received a free ARC from Sarah and author Netta Newbound, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Netta Newbound, originally from Manchester, England, has lived in New Zealand with her husband Paul for the past
22 years, but they are on the move again. By August, they will be back in Cumbria, UK, and she vows this is the very last move!
As a child, Netta was plagued by a wild imagination, often getting in trouble for making up weird and wonderful stories. Yet she didn’t turn her attention to writing until after her children had grown and left home.
Most of her inspiration comes from the horror greats–Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Richard Layman.Netta mostly writes psychological thriller novels, all of which consistently rank highly in the best seller categories. She is currently writing a series of crime thrillers with Marcus Brown, her son-in-law and business partner.
Nurse, Lizzi Yates, is assigned to provide end-of-life care to Charlie Maidley, one of Britain’s footballing legends, on the condition she keeps his identity a secret.
Unbeknownst to Lizzi, Charlie’s doctors have agreed to allow his sister, Miriam, to take him home to die on the strict understanding he remains in an induced coma, due to his history of assaulting women—a side effect of his brain tumour.
Miriam goes away on business, leaving Lizzi in charge, but a mishap with Charlie’s medication has Lizzi questioning why he is spending his final days comatose. Deciding he is being sedated without just cause, she makes the call to wake him up.
However, a string of events and the discovery of a girl’s body at the bottom of the garden lead her to wonder if she’s made the right decision.
Who is the killer?
Could Lizzi be his next victim?
