Many thanks to Anne Cater and Random Things Tours for my spot on this Blog Tour.
This book was hypnotic at its best from the cover to the prose to the end. Thomas Enger and John Lier Horst deserved every single word of praise!!
A celebrity murder + great publicity + more thrills + more kills = serial killer. Entered the cop Alexander Bix who was at the helm of the investigation along with his partner Sophie and blogger Emma Ramm who discovered the first body, and I got a book which was a thrilling police procedural.
Having not read any book by either of the authors, I was zapped by the strength of the prose which was pretty seamless. I loved how both the authors have amalgamated their writing. The story moved at a swift pace, keeping my mind engaged and my nose to the kindle. The pieces of the puzzle that the story was, were written in such a manner that my curiosity increased with every page.
Red herrings and some deft writing kept me lost in the maze, where the only emotions I felt were tension and excitement. I tried playing Detective, looking at every character with my evil eye, but unfortunately the killer seemed to be two steps ahead of me. The race against time to prevent more murders was keenly felt.
The characters were quite an odd pair, (actually, now that I think about it, some of the bloggers I know would make great partners to the cops with the number of crime thrillers they’ve read), but the duo worked. They complemented each other, their past surely helped. While I liked Emma, it was to Bix I was drawn to. One mistake cost him his career, and I could connect with his vulnerability. The story had the feels along with the thrills.
My first Nordic Noir, oh boy, I was blown away by the chill in the story, with a brilliant villain whose brain left indecipherable clues and two odd protagonists who evened each other out. Only after completing the book, I realized it was translated. Huh, really? I never would have made that out.
Overall, it was a smooth story with some brilliant subplots that captured my attention completely. A great way to start my day…
I received a free ARC from Anne and the publisher, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!! STRICTLY HONEST AND UNBIASED.

Police officer Alexander Blix and celebrity blogger Emma Ramm join forces to track down a serial killer with a thirst for attention and high-profile murders, in the first episode of a gripping new Nordic Noir series…
Oslo, 2018. Former long-distance runner Sonja Nordstrøm never shows at the launch of her controversial autobiography, Always Number One. When celebrity blogger Emma Ramm visits Nordstrøm’s home later that day, she finds the door unlocked and signs of a struggle inside. A bib with the number ‘one’ has been pinned to the TV.
Police officer Alexander Blix is appointed to head up the missing-persons investigation, but he still bears the emotional scars of a hostage situation nineteen years earlier, when he killed the father of a five-year-old girl. Traces of Nordstrøm soon show up at different locations, but the appearance of the clues appear to be carefully calculated … evidence of a bigger picture that he’s just not seeing…
Blix and Ramm soon join forces, determined to find and stop a merciless killer with a flare for the dramatic, and thirst for attention.
Trouble is, he’s just got his first taste of it…
