MY REVIEW

A missing child and the motives behind it captured my afternoon as my mind raced to the truth. Cleo’s daughter Immy had been taken from her own grounds, and the cops started searching. But Cleo too found many secrets especially of the people surrounding her.

My first book by author McDine, it was a random. Amazon suggestion which forced me to pick it up. I loved the premises, the swift pace, the way the prose didn’t waste time to give me the truth of the past along with secrets of the present.

Even when I reached midway, I loved that the book seemed to be holding to its secrets, allowing me crumbs of it to make my own deductions. I love books like that. I could think of the various subplots I could have written.

There were so many delicious subplots that the author left open, that it became almost next to impossible not to jump to the end and get to the reveal. But fear not, I read the pages one by one.

I enjoyed the book, a lot, and found this author to be one of the ones I would keep an eye on.

Some of the best are so obscure on social media that I can’t find them to tag them on the past and show my appreciation. Hope this author finds my review some day and learns how much I enjoyed this book.

Everyone thinks three-year-old Immy drowned in the river at the bottom of the garden.

Everyone except Cleo. Because all her instincts tell her someone took her daughter. Someone she knew.

With time running out, Cleo sets out to uncover the truth. But the deeper she probes, the more she realises everyone has a secret to hide. Especially her husband.

And as Cleo unpicks the lies, she discovers her carefully constructed life was just an illusion
