Woman Reading a book 1

What Do We Think?

An Eye For An Eye is the first book in Carol Wyer’s new Detective Kate Young series. If you have never read anything by Carol Wyer before, she has some excellent detective series including both:

  • The Di Robyn Carter series.
  • The Detective Natalie Ward series.
  • The DI Kate Young Series

This new series is something quite exciting for her fans as it brings new promise of a new literary addiction.

This book proves to be a great start to a new series by the author. It is headed by a dynamic protagonist, who has plenty of flaws in her personal life that most people can relate to on one level or another.

Currently, on leave as the result of trauma, the book eventually clues us in on what happened. The book wants you to figure out what happened to yourself.

Most readers seem to enjoy that as a reader you are not outright told what happens, but instead, you are fed clues, forced to figure it out yourself until at the end you find out.

In a sense it puts you in the shoes of the detective, making you feel like Young herself.

While the book is filled with some gruesome stuff in the awful and grotesque murders, they do not actually take place in ink and paper, instead, there is more of a focus on what happens after, and Young trying to figure out why this is happening.

Kate Young assembles her own team of very interesting characters, whom we are certain will follow her into the rest of the series, allowing the readers to get to know them even better.

The book itself actually moves quite quickly, progressing forward continuously. It is continuous but also paired with traumatic flashbacks suffered by our protagonist that really lump you into her shoes, feeling the experience.

It is a pretty hard book to put down. You may guess some of the endings, perhaps putting together the pieces of what happened, but Carole Wyer’s writing is genius, and you will surely be shocked by some of the developments that end up being revealed.

An Eye For An Eye' By Carol Wyer - Book Review

We love writing. It balances out perfectly with a healthy rise and fall in excitement, that then peaks and stays peaked as you reach the halfway marker in the book. The protagonist is far from perfect, without a level head at all times, making her feel really human.

It has an excellent ending that leads you off into the second book, with no need for a tedious cliffhanger, but more of a waiting revelation.

It is brilliant for fans of her work, old and new, for this to be a series, and this book provides it with an excellent start that sucks the reader in from the get-go.

If you love crime drama and a good detective story, we are sure you will love this as much as we did!

About Carol Wyer

Carol Wyer is hardly an unknown or new author, she is the USA Today bestselling author and has won the People’s Book Prize Award. Her crime novels have managed to sell an overwhelming 800,000 copies in 9 languages.

She moved from comedy to the darker side of things in 2017, and it was then we saw the popular Di Robyn Carter series head her career, and show us she had found her niche in writing.

She has had articles published in magazines such as Take A Break, Yours, Woman’s Weekly, and so on. She has also been interviewed on many radio shows in the UK as well.

She does still touch on her humor though, as when she is not writing devious plots she performs her comedy routine “Smile While You Still Have Teethâ€.

Amazon.com Review

A new author and series for me. It great start with a gruesome murder. Then it got a bit strange with flashbacks to a traumatic event. I was disappointed with the absence of humor, considering the writer’s background.

I was beginning to find the investigation a bit tedious. However, the climate of the book almost made up for the dull middle section. – M. Harris, 3 out of 5 Stars.

This was my first book by this author, and I look forward to reading more. There was plenty going on this one, and a few things did not become obvious immediately.

The main crime was intriguing, and I found myself wanting to see what would happen. I look forward to reading more crime mysteries from this world – Megan Chambers, 4 out of 5 Stars.

Goodreads.com Reviews

An absolutely stellar book!- Robin Loves Reading, 5 out of 5 Stars.

Another brilliant offering and the first book in a new series from Carol Wyer-Michelle, 5 out of 5 Stars.

I was hooked by this book, even though the protagonist’s marriage was not all it seemed, the crimes were overly complicated and there was an uncomfortable old gay stereotype.

I was disappointed to find that vital information was under the DI’s nose the whole time, but was prepared to overlook this. I can’t overlook the overused plot of leaving a novel unresolved to get us to buy the next in the seriesMarina, 3 out of 5 Stars.

Overview

An Eye For An Eye is a great book with an interesting concept and one that can hit close to home for some. The protagonist feels more real, but there are plenty of cliches in there that keep us feeling familiar.

It is not a book for everyone, but do not get bogged down in the author’s background, do not expect humor from this new series. Enjoy this gripping thriller (If you like Thriller Books, check out the works of Jack Carr and how to read them) for what it is, intense, wild, and jaw-dropping!
