American fiction writer Christopher Paolini began his series “The Inheritance Cycle” with the publication of Eragon.
Eragon, a poor farm boy, discovers a strange stone in the mountains and the adventures that follow. The strange thing that looked like only a blue stone turned out to be a dragon egg. Eragon takes care of the egg, and a dragon hatches from it. Eragon names the dragon Saphira (Sapphire is not only a blue stone but a precious gemstone), and he doesn’t know it yet, but not only a dragon but also a dragon rider is born.
After the terrible and evil King Galbatorix hears of the egg, he dispatches his hideous servants to retrieve it, forcing Eragon and Saphira to leave their hometown with Brom, a storyteller. An ancient dragon rider named Brom instructs Eragon in “The Ways of the Rider.” Armed with a dragon and only an ancient sword, Eragon sets out to battle the evil king Galbatorix. The events of Eldest begin after the conflict in Eragon. Eragon decides to travel to the elves’ kingdom to train in magic and battle after consulting The Cripple. During the next trip to find Urgal, Eragon’s friend Murtagh and a pair of sorcerers cause the Twins to disappear, which threatens the stability of the group.

The Book of Inheritance opens while fighting near the city of Alagaesia on the island of Belatona. The Varden were rebels battling against Galbatorix’s rule, and Eragon Bromsson and Saphira battled alongside them. By seizing Belatona, the Varden wanted to free Alagaesia from his rule. They accomplish their mission but at the cost of Saphira’s life.
The following action is to seize control of Dras-Leona. When Eragon and his friends enter the sewers, they enter a trap set by Murtagh and his dragon, Thorn. Their leader, Nasuada, is kidnapped by Murtagh and Thorn, but the Varden comes to their aid. Eragon has been appointed leader of the Varden in her absence.
Eragon resolves to overcome Galbatorix and his sorcery. When he goes to the werecat Solembum for guidance, he discovers that the Vault of Souls is a prophecy. Before Eragon can get into the vault on Vroengard Island, where Eldunar keeps hundreds of dragon eggs, he must first find out their real names.
When Eragon and Saphira find that Galbatorix has stolen Eldunari powers, some Eldunari agree to help them defeat him. The remainder must stay behind to guard the dragon eggs. To prevent Galbatorix from using magic to learn where the dragon eggs are hidden, a few Eldunari erase Eragon and Saphira’s memories before they leave.
Born in 1983, Paolini started writing Eragon at the age of fifteen and self-published it at the age of nineteen. The book gained widespread popularity and was later picked up by a major publisher, leading to the release of the subsequent books in the series.
