Book Review - She’s Mine by Claire S. Lewis
Only 3 words come to mind when I sit down to write this review - I don’t know… Well I know many things but I don’t know what I have read… I know I have read a thriller but it seemed like a fantasy… Not witchy and faerie and magic kinds but unreal, unrelatable, and somewhat unlikable…
Scarlett the nanny was watching child Katie on the beach when she dozed off and the child disappeared. A cry was raised, cops were called, and the search was on.
This book by Claire Lewis confused the bejeesus out of me. Mother, though initially upset, soon went for mani-pedi and then drinks with her young boyfriend. So it was left to Scarlett to get to the truth. Parts of that investigation was good and seemed genuine.
But then again the characters behaved weirdly, idiotic would be the right word. Scarlett got into the jeep of the mother’s drunk boyfriend and allowed him to assault/molest her. The cop too used the heavy hand, read as assault, with Scarlet outside of police station for no reason. There were many other subplots which seemed to have been written without checking if they were plausible. They were just forcibly made to fit.
The arc interested me, I could guess the plot, but the rest were all a fantastical thriller.

When Scarlett falls asleep on a Caribbean beach she awakes to her worst nightmare – Katie is gone. With all fingers pointed to her Scarlett must risk everything to clear her name.

I liked the missing child arc I guessed the basic plot.. But most reactions were weird

A missing child then the mother heads for a mani/pedi that is some weird behaviour!

Agreed… I suspected the mother initially… But then the plot became a convoluted but everyone’s reactions were a bit unreal…

This sounds a bit ish ish but its nice that you enjoyed some aspects of the book. I hope your next read will be much better though.

Perhaps another round with a good editor could fix some of these points for the author.

It sounds like a pretty confusing book and I can understand the difficulties of writing a review afterwards. It is pretty hard to know where to start whe you are not sure what you read. I always try to state what I disliked and why and I try to think about something positive about the book. I think the key is being honest about it without fully bashing the book.

I agree… But I sometimes bash the book if it frustrates me, then other readers bash me for the low rating… I wish they would tell me they don’t want my honest opinion…but most times I am nice..
