Book Review – Lies Between Us by Ronnie Turner
I ran, I walked, I ran, then I walked… I kept to the shades in the lanes… I followed silently hoping to see…. I picked it up and let it go. A love obsessed, a love fatal, I saw some and I left some…
This has been my journey into Ronnie Turner’s book. Some words pulled me in so deep, some just frustrated me with its oblique meaning. Lots of pages made me re-read and some just made me give up. I was in dilemma after reading it. I couldn’t really make out if I liked it or not. I loved parts of it. I loved the pain of the father when the child was kidnapped. I loved the mystery surrounding it all.
The story was a child Bonnie kidnapped and the story told from three points of view, father in the present, a friend in the past, and a nurse in the future. I loved the maze that Ronnie had created with her debut. I loved her imagery, her byplay of words. Her alternating chapters tried to confuse me and made me want to waver. But I stood steadfast in my guesswork.
I would want to read more of the author’s work, her writing has the talent, there was a strange rhythm in her words, which kept my eyes locked to my kindle. But things kept niggling me enough in this book to keep me strictly in the middle.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher HQ Digital, and this is my journey into its pages, straight from the heart!!
All my reviews can be found here
Three people, leading very different lives, are about to be brought together – with devastating consequences . . .
John has a perfect life, until the day his daughter goes missing.
Maisie cares for her patients, but hides her own traumatic past.
Miller should be an innocent child, but is obsessed with something he can’t have.
They all have something in common, though none of them know it – and the truth won’t stay hidden for long . . .

It seems like this book pulled you in for a bit and then lost you. Sorry it wasn’t a pull you in book from start to finish.

I am always sold to byplay of words. You do the same with the start of the review, lending your personal touching and writing in an innovative manner. This individual style stands out Shalini 🙂

So sad it wasn’t better but three stars isn’t too bad, right? I find books that are neither great nor horrible the most difficult to review but you did a great job here.

Sometimes a review that is a result of enjoyment-frustration-enjoyment makes me want to read that book even more just to see if it will affect me the same way.

Very true… In fact, I love books which have mixed reviews, the curiosity to know what I would feel makes me pick up that book. I wish more authors realized that, instead of getting angry over negative reviews

As always, I love your honesty reviews! Sometimes it’s hard as a reviewer to review books that we didn’t really enjoy or those that we aren’t so sure about 😅

Awwwn, it almost sounded so perfect until you mentioned “niggling” in there. I knew it wasn’t going to get a perfect score then. 😛 Great review, Shalini!
